Art Music and Movement Mondays

MONDAYS....
Ask your child about what art or music they did. Every Monday I will be hitting a art standard that I might not normally get to have planned T-TH. These are pics of the music center that I put out every Monday. Your child should be able to tell you what his/her favorite instrument is to play.

APPLE WEEK

(Sorry for the delay....  My blog was down )

                                       APPLES
                                APPLES
                                             APPLES

                           This was an exciting week!!!!

Every lesson, activity, and game was with apples. I was also able to include a lot of small motor as you will see in the photos. I would have to say for many of your children this was the week that I really seen a change. Handwriting is developing and recognition of letters and numbers is improving.

I hope you enjoy the photos that i have picked for you....

I have not used writing worksheets this year. Its all been writing in sand, and shaving cream. I also let them copy words. During circle time we talk about the words the letters and the sound the letter makes and how to form the letters using shapes and a wipe off board.

It is amazing how much faster they are writing compared to years past.

Here we are working on number recognition. Each number has dots... the child counts the dots to know what number it is. This is called touch math. It is fun and they are learning without even knowing it.

This is a math game I use often. I just make it match the theme each week. The children roll the dice and take as many as the dice is. Each child gets 5 rolls and the winner has the most. It isn't just for counting, It also touches on distribution and more/ less than

This activity really worked the hand muscles. First they had to squeeze 10x then pick up each apple only using 1 hand.

Writing Apple in red shaving cream... All the students were forming the letters correctly

Making apple pies with cinnamon scented play dough...using tools to make the pies
During this activity we talked about what sense we were using...smell, sight, and touch

matching numbers 1-10

Reading apple stories... The 2 main books that I used this year were Growing an Apple Pie Tree and Ten Apples Up On Top. Most of the activities that I had were extensions of these 2 stories.

                                                       Making apple print art

We measured and weighed the apples.

Investigated the inside of the apples

Apple sequencing... this actually seemed difficult for many of the students.

We sorted red, yellow, and green pom poms

10 apples on top...Children rolled balls of red playdough to recreate the story.

We stacked the apples... the most was 4 apples

Using red and green stamp pads we made apple patterns

       Miss Amy’s October Newsletter

Wow! It is turning out to be a great year!!! I have had a great time teaching your children. The mornings are filled with learning and lots of fun.

We continue to develop our classroom and school week routines together.  In October we focus on the theme of “Fall” and have fun with Halloween activities. We enjoy the vibrant colors of the changing leaves, the harvest, and observe the seasonal changes in nature.

In math we are practicing calendar and weather routines and learning more about number formation, number sequences and patterns.  Students have many practical and fun opportunities to practice counting, number recognition throughout the day.

Kindergartners are learning to refer to classroom models and resources as they listen to letter sounds, practice letter and number formation. Handwriting Without Tears has been an amazing tool this year. The children are learning their letters and having a lot of fun as they do it.

Dress…
We go outside every day, weather permitting.  Please make sure your child wears clothing appropriate for cooler or wet days, so he/she will be comfortable, especially as the fall days grow chillier.  Clothing labeled with your child’s name will help us to locate any lost items.  Practice with snaps, buttons, zippers, and laces at home can help your child feel more confident dressing for outside when he/she is at school.

Field Trip…
We are joining preschool on a field trip. It is at Colonial Gardens and it will be $5.00. We are leaving BY 8:45 and will be back in time for lunch. If you would like to attend please contact me. Remember to have sneakers on you child and pack a fall jacket.

    The Classroom…
Please try to come down with your child and look at what they have been doing on their classroom. I hang a few things up a week and I know they are excited to share what they are learning with you.

Thank you to all the parents that brought in supplies in September. If you still have things to bring in they are more than welcome.

    Halloween Party…
Our Halloween party will on October 31. Please bring your child’s Halloween costume in a labeled bag. Mr. Mike will post a snack and goody list on the front board. Please feel free to sign up. I also love having parent helpers.
